Oral Sedation – Sedation Dentistry Information

My first encounter with oral sedation was when one of my three year olds needed to have dental work done. One of the challenges dentists face when performing procedures on young children is keeping them immobilized during the duration of the procedure.

My wife and I went to see several specialists, and they informed us of all of the risks associated with this procedure, but the bottom line was that our son needed to have the dental work done so we opted to use the oral sedation. In our case, this consisted of coaxing my three year old to down some nasty syrup that someone thought tasted good…just not him.

As a result, the sedation went to work and the dentist was able to perform the cosmetic dental work on my son. Now I am not sure if this is what is considered sleep dentistry, but I aim to find out. As I began to explore this topic on the Internet I was amazed to find that there is a huge practice surrounding both oral sedation and sleep dentistry. I guess sleep dentists are more common than I thought.

So I have created this blog to provide other users with information about this topic. As I find out the information, I will post it there, and hopefully we can have a good discussion about the various topics and techniques. I am looking forward to it.
